The film details the life of Periyar right from a childhood to his marriage to Nagammal to his pilgrimage to Kashi which changed his life where he understands the cruelty of the Hindu Caste System that only Brahmins are welcomed and he was refused meals at choultries which exclusively fed Brahmins forbidding other Hindu castes. Having starved severely, Periyar found no other better way than to enter a choultry disguises himself with the appearance of a Brahmin wearing a thread on his bare chest but it is found out and is disgusted with life in Kashi. Periyar returns and joins his father's business and later becomes the Chairman of the Erode Municipality which he gives and joins the freedom struggle and becomes the President of Congress party of Madras Presidency and later quitting and joining the Justice Party and the formation of the DMK. His role in the Anti-Hindi agitation and Vaikom struggle. His second marriage and the formation of the DMK. It covers his entire life till death.

Azhagesan (Sathyaraj), a mentally retarded man, loves his cousin Nandini (Prema), a college student. Azhagesan works hard in Neelakandan's house for few coins. Neelakandan (Pithamagan Mahadevan), the village landlord, has a son Sekhar (Manoj K. Jayan) who is a womaniser. Chandra, Nandini's college professor, falls in love with Nandini, he proposes to marry her and she accepts. Sekhar, who has an eye on Nandini, is humiliated and slapped by Nandini. Sekhar evicts Nandini and Nandini's grandmother (Manorama) from their house. Her marriage is immediately stopped and her grandmother falls ill. Azhagesan accommodates them in his house. Nandini's grandmother dies and Nandini is raped by Sekhar. Nandini begins to feel sympathy for Sekhar, she aborts with Neelakandan's daughter support. Neelakandan requests Nandini to come in his house and they can prepare for the marriage but she refuses and Azhagesan humiliates Neelakandan. Sekhar decides to kill Azhagesan. The story is about Balu (Vishal), who on a visit to his friend's town Chidambaram, takes on the local dada Kasi (Lal). Balu, an engineering student, also falls in love with his friend's sister Hema (Meera Jasmine). Kasi, after being at the receiving end of Balu's macho ways, is smarting under the rebuff. He thirsts for revenge. So when Balu goes back to his own city Madurai, Kasi also goes there to extract blood for blood. But Balu is from no ordinary family. His father Dorai (Raj Kiran) is himself a powerful leader in his domain. So taking out Balu is not such an easy task. But Kasi wants revenge at any cost. He befriends a local goon(Thalaivaasal' Vijay) who is made an outcast by Dorai and they together plan to exact revenge. Meanwhile Balu's friend and his family visits his city as they are on a pilgrimage they meet Balu at the temple and accept his apology. He proposes to Hema and their love is accepted by their parents. The goons plan to exact revenge during the annual temple festival as they reason that it will be crowded and that Dorai and his henchmen will not be able to defend themselves .They attack but the events do not turn out in their favor.
