1930's, Bengal. Biswambhar Roy is the last in a long line of rich patriarchs. He continues to cling to his refined tastes even as his estate is diminishing. All that remains is his two loyal servants, a horse, an elephant, and the crumbling palace. His inability to adapt with changing times has made him into a recluse. He has closed the music room for good. The sound of music from the neighbor s house and a wise to demonstrate his fine taste in music to his flashy neighbor leads him to organize one last concert. The music room is opened once again. After all the guests have left, a drunk Roy remembers the past glory. He proudly introduces portraits of his ancestors to his servant. He notices a big spider on his own portrait. As the candles go out one by one, Roy is convinced that he too must depart with the extinguishing of the last candle. It is almost dawn now so he need not worry about the candles. In a grand gesture, he mounts his horse and rides at a terrible pace to be violently thrown off. Roy dies as two servants look on tearfully.

This is a story about a boy named Pradeep, who is rejected by both his parents. He runs away from them to become a bandit. But his childhood sweetheart Neelima grows up to be a police officer and she is posted in the same area to catch him. Neelima and Pradeep have several encounters and soon Pradeep realizes that it is his beloved Neelima, but he doesn t reveal his identity to her. But when Neelima realizes who Pradeep is, she inspires him to surrender and start his life afresh.

Hossian Miya, a businessman with a rare vision: he wants to carry a little phenomenon on Moynadeep in the Padma delta. and offer them a better lifestyle. Hossian Miya has a flourishing business , as a result of it he has recently developed a huge boat because of this dream. He doesn't bother about people s religion. The time is 1947, on the twilight of the British raj, and the Hindu fisherman Kuber briefly accepts the offer by Hossain to take some of the community's goods from the island. In the process of getting the cargo, he gets to see what the colony is like and, even though he is fully aware of the gripes of a former colony member and the limitations of it, comes to share some of the utopian vision. Rasu has came from Moynadeep deserting his wife and children there. Aminuddin, too, refuses to return to Moynadeep again. Kubir has a wife and daughter. His wife troubled with a leg deformity. Kubir goes to pay a visit to his relatives from his wife's side. On return, he brings along his sister-in-law Kapila along with a ton of small kids. Kapila was married, but is now estranged from her husband. A sneaky amorous relationship develops between Kubir and Kapila. Hussian Miya offers to lend a helping hand to the villagers. He does so, but in return he takes their thumb impression as proof of his help. Rasu and Kubir engaged in a conflict. Then Hossain Miya resoved it and Rasu goes to Moynadeep.

The decline of the 34 yrs domination of the Communist Party in West Bengal was shortly preceded by an intolerable political turmoil, to which a famous Theatre and Film director Shirshendu Ray falls victim. The Situation worsens when his close friend - a dramatist and film producer - Firoz Ahemd is killed. Already mentally depressed, Mr. Ray is shocked by this tragic incident. As the political turmoil continues with hundreds of processions on the roads, every day the news reveals the death of an innocent countryman. While Bengal carries on her drastic, horrible daily life Mr. Ray gets incredibly depressed and has to be forcibly taken to a mental asylum. After a long treatment in the asylum, Mr. Ray becomes stable but one day goes missing from the asylum. The government takes over from this situation the starting of the tale. Many days later at a desolate railway station far away from the city, a relinquished bag is found which is later handed over to the police. Later this bag reveals a diary proving that the bag belongs to the missing director. The allotted investigation officer works on this case for many days & nights. Later he asks the wife of Mr. Ray and one of his students from the drama group to meet at Mr. Ray s house. The officer starts reading the diary in front of the wife and the student revealing the causes and the events responsible for Mr. Ray going missing. As we go on listening or rather seeing the tale we realize how Shirshendu s wife, his student, we spectators and political and non-political personalities forcibly expelled him from society, directly and indirectly. Directed by Sudipta Dey & Produced by Sudipta Dey, the film stars Soumitra Chatterjee, Meghna Halder, Debraj Roy in lead roles with a musical score by Puranjoy Guha.

A medical student, Aditi, returns to visit her mother in Calcutta. She has spent most of her childhood at a boarding school and doesn t know much about her parents, particularly her father who died when she was young. Her mother Sarojini, a noted dancer is preparing to receive an important prize. The girl is still obsessed with the loss of her father and as his death anniversary approaches, she becomes increasingly despondent; something her mother fails to notice as she is caught up in the brouhaha surrounding the award. A tragedy catches the mother s attention and finally, mother and daughter make their peace.
