Although Basanta hails from a rich family, his heart is that of a wanderer. Often he escapes from materialistic riches and wanders from one place to another singing. One day he comes to a village where he finds people extremely passionate about drama and acting. The villagers welcome him and soon he finds place in the local kabiraj s house. The kabiraj s daughter Harimati and Basanta shared a bitter sweet relationship and soon love begins to bloom. The village is soon visited by a dancing team and Basanta gets involved in singing with them. The leading lady Golap falls in love with Basanta however he refuses to marry her. He marries Harimati and takes her to his village. He settles down for a while however soon comes back to his restless self. He leaves his wife behind and starts wandering again. After encountering a number of experiences he again comes across the same dancing team, which he had met with a long time ago. He is happy to know that Golap was married with a kid. As Basanta continues his quest for wandering, he falls ill and realizes that his days are numbered. Destiny brings him back to his own house where he comes back to find Harimati dead leaving behind their child. He flees again and finally leaves his last breath in a boat in the middle of the river.

Choto Bakulpurer Jatri shows how innocent people were made victims of violence. Dibakar, a humble factory worker sets out with his wife for his marital home in Choto Bokulpur as his wife was disturbed after hearing the news of unrest and violence there. She wants to assure that her parents are safe amidst the revolution of the peasants which the police and army were trying hard to suppress. As they reach the outskirts of the village they are stopped by few men who start questioning them. They are thoroughly searched and their luggage is thrown open to check if they are revolutionaries. They get no evidence against them in their luggage. But, when Dibakar is searched they find a paan wrapped in a piece of paper bearing an advertisement lauding the brave efforts of the revolutionaries and condemning the tortures of the suppressors. Despite Dibakar s repeated assurance that he isn t a revolutionary they kill him mercilessly and thus ends an innocent life.

'Deepsikha' is the story of Deep and Shikha. Deep and Shikha suddenly get married due to a turn of fate. Deep is a boy from village while Shikha is born and brought up in the city. Shikha can't accept Deep as her husband as she thinks him to be an illiterate villager unworthy of her. Deep is actually a brilliant scholar who pursues his post-graduation and doctorate degree. Shikha is unaware of it as Deep never reveals anything to her and her mother. Shikha's best friend Mili who considers Deep as her brother finds out his truth but keeps his identity a secret as a request from him. Deep wins the Gyanpeeth award in literature for his book 'Homshikha' written under the pseudonym Satyaki. Gradually Shikha becomes aware of Deep's qualities. When the lead singer of Shikha's drama group doesn't appear on the day of the show Deep sings for them and saves the show. One day Shikha finds out that Deep is actually Satyaki when he is chosen as an ambassador of Hindu religion to America's religious conference. The differences between the couple are finally erased and they happily unite.
