Janani is the struggle that a mother goes through to bring up her three children after the sudden death of her husband. The mother toils hard and raises her sons Upen and Bhupen to be a lawyer and doctor respectively. Her daughter Charu falls in love with a boy from a rich family. To get her married in a lavish ceremony Upen and Bhupen marry Bani and Lina and give their dowry for their sister. But, the new brides are unhappy as they had to give away their ornaments to their sister-in-law. Upen's wife Bani starts creating problems regarding small issues. When their mother tells them to pay the loan she had taken from Bipin to raise them they initially agree to share the burden. But. Bani, Upen's wife instigates him and he refuses. Upen decides to separate from his brother. Their mother is shattered when the brothers start fighting to decide with whom their mother will stay. She leaves home. The brothers realize their mistake. They bring their mother back and are happily united.

Amit's jovial presence helps Devi get back to normal life. Neela develops feelings for Amit and so does Devi. Amit proposes to Devi the day he is about to leave her home. Devi says that she can't accept his proposal as she is a murderer. She confesses she killed Vikram. Devi is arrested. Amit turns out to be a IPS officer sent to investigate Vikram's death. Amit further investigates the case and it's revealed that Vikram was a characterless rich spoilt brat who tried to rape Devi and the scuffle between them led to his accidental death. Devi is released and they are happily united.
