Chandni belongs to a middle-class family, living with her father and younger siblings in one of the tiny by-lanes of old Bhopal. Chandni, who is deeply attached to her school-going brother and sister, is trained in classical and folk music. During a stage performance she falls in love with Prem. Prem, a sole heir to a flourishing business family, is an aspiring singer. He too falls in love with her. The parents are ecstatic and decide to get the two engaged. As fate would have it, Chandni loses her father on the eve of engagement. The loss comes as a shock to both the families and grief takes over elation. Chandni is devastated. She decides to sacrifice her love so that she can bring up her little brother and sister. Prem is moved by her decision and asks Chandni for just one thing - a right to wait for her. more»
