The plot revolves around the land acquisition movement of 2006-07 in Bengal. The government asked the peasants to give up their lands for industrialization and promised them jobs in return. However, the peasants refused to give up their ancestral land as they smelled foul play and this led to a clash between them and the authorities. Kaali lives a middle class life with his sister Seeta in a shanty house. He works at a small train station nearby with an engineer called Vinay.
