Sapna lives in poverty with her factory worker's mother and her alcoholic step-father. Sapna's friend Neeta's husband is crippled from an accident and goes blind. Neeta goes to work to support her family as a prostitute. Neeta introduces Sapna to her pimp, Heera and hopes that Sapna will earn enough money to pull herself out of the clutches of poverty and the misbehaviour of her step-father. Amit, an educated young man, an owner-driver of his taxi comes to Sapna's rescue when she is under threat and gratitude turns into love. The alcoholic step-father has designs on Sapna and tries to exert his authority on her, resulting in Sapna assaulting him. As a result, she serves a jail term. His only daughter, Priya, is studying in Delhi. She has been selected by her school to go to Amritsar as she has topped the school. She is on a flight from Delhi to Amritsar with her teacher when the plane in which she is flying is hijacked by terrorists. The hijackers demand the release of Rashid Omar, their accomplice or else the hostages will be killed. The flight is forced to land at Chandigarh airport for refuelling before taking off to Dubai.
