The son of Zamindar Narayan Mukherjee, Devdas was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He grew up in the lush village of Taj Sonapur, where he spent his childhood, indulged by his lovely playmate Paro. They grew up sharing a special relationship, in which they existed only to each other. Oblivious of all the differences of status and background, a bond that would never break grew between them. Slowly, it changed to love but it was still unsaid. But the reverie was broken when his family sent Devdas to Calcutta for education. Paro's world crashed knowing that her Devdas would be gone and she lit a diya, for it signified the fast coming back of her loved one. Years passed and Devdas returned. Devdas was besotted by her stunning beauty and longed to have her back. But Zamindar Narayan Mukherjee, Devdas' father, met Paro's mother Sumitra's marriage proposal with condescending arrogance. Raikamal narrates the story of Rai Kamal, a devotee of Lord Krishna. Rai Kamal and Ranjan are childhood sweethearts. When Ranjan grows up he wishes his desire to marry Rai but his parents are against this match as they are Brahmins and Rai Kamal was a low caste Vaishnav. Ranjan's father requests Kamini, Rai' mother to convince Rai to sever the relationship. Rai's mother leaves the village with Rai. Rashik Das, a minstrel accompanies them to Nabadweep. After Rai's mother's death she is forced to marry Rashik despite their huge age gap to stop the people from gossiping about them. But, they are never able to share a normal relationship of a couple. Rashik leaves Rai and goes away as he knows that Rai can love only Ranjan. Rai gets to know that Ranjan had left the village with Pori and converted into a Vaishnav. Circumstances again bring Rai and Ranjan together. Ranjan takes her to his house. Ranjan tells her that he had been waiting for her all the while and proposes to marry her. An ailing Pori also requests Rai to marry Ranjan but Rai leaves his house and takes to the streets once again. Tapas Singha is an aspiring singer and the son of a reputed businessman. His stepmother gives him a bad name and throws him out of his house to inherit all the property of her husband. Mina s story is also very similar. Her stepmother tortures her a lot and ruins her career. She is compelled to move out of her own house. They both decide to commit suicide and go to the riverbank. Where they meet and the cupid strikes. Together they decide to give life one more tries; on the other hand, we get to see another couple Lalu and Leela. Leela is a cousin of Tapas and Lalu, the goon with a heart of gold is a neighbour of Mina. Lalu and Leela were married in the childhood, but they were separated due to unfortunate circumstances. Tapas and Mina in search of a living starts to work for a millionaire and his wife respectively. But problem arises again as the employer thinks that Tapas is having an affair with his wife and fires him. Mina breaks down and starts to search for Tapas as he goes missing. Finally, during the climax Mina and Tapas get reunited and so does Lalu and Leela, and the audience gets to see a happy ending. more»
