Kuku, a motherless boy tries to find his happiness with his childhood friend Ronnie Gulati. Living with his father and younger sister, Kuku possess an inborn talent for cooking but his not so well off family proves as a hinderance to his dreams. \n\nHowever, Ronnie, born in a joint family has a wealthy father to support and he soon becomes engrossed in his business, a start up given by his father. Unable to dedicate time to his buddy Kuku, the two have a rift. But not ending at that, an enraged Kuku plots to avenge his friend by burning his godown and using the goods there to fulfill his dreams of being a cook.

Lakhipur is a small community along the river bank of Ganga, where Sonu lives with his ailing mother. One day he rescues a woman named Geeta and brings her home with him. He and his mom look after her while she recuperates and find out that she comes from a wealthy family. When she gets better, he takes her home, only to find out that she is no longer welcome there by her paternal uncle and his wife, Ramkali. His mom agrees to let her live with them, and would like them to get married, but passes away before that could happen. They end up getting shunned by the by the entire community - until Sonu agrees to find a suitable groom for Geeta. He does find one in a doctor, who arrives to treat plague-ridden patients. The doctor agrees to marry Geeta, but on the day of the marriage - does not show up. A distraught Sonu must now find why the doctor did not fulfill his promise - in the midst of the community threatening to boycott him and possibly burning his brand new boat.

Brij Mohan (Nitin Sethi) leaves his home in the village to live in Bombay. His mother (Durga Khote) prefers to stay alone in their palatial home. Brij gets married. His wife gives birth and passes away soon after. After a few years, Brij is an established businessman and his son Montu (Satyajeet) is studying the final year in school. He asks Montu to visit his grandmother which he agrees reluctantly provided his friends to accompany him. The group is besotted with many problems when they reach the village. His friends return to Bombay, leaving Montu with his grandmother. Montu becomes friends with a precocious village girl Gauri (Nameeta Chandra), an orphan living with her cruel aunt, and two equally cruel cousin sisters. Montu and Gauri's friendship blossoms and they meet regularly. He also meets a struggling farmer Balram (Arun Govil), his mother (Leela Mishra), and his fiancee Kanak (Abha Dhulia). Balram would like to go to the city, earn money for his marriage which his mother refuses. Against his expectations, Montu finds village life interesting and promises his grandmother to return the next year. After a year, he finds significant changes in the village. Balram has married and left the village. His ailing mother has died. Gauri refuses to speak with him, while her uncle and aunt are looking for a suitable groom to get her married. Does Montu understand and appreciate changes in the village against the city life, where he has grown up, and visit his grandmother again?
