Bahurani features the story of a landlord who has two sons Raghu, by his first wife, and Vikram, by his second wife. Raghu is a simple-minded and innocent young man. Vikram is cruel, domineering, selfish and greedy. Also, he ill-treats everyone, from servants to his own brother Raghu. Likewise, his mother too is equally cruel to people around her. One day, Vikram has a fight with the Padma, who becomes the first person to ever confront him. Seeing this, the landlord decides to get Vikram married to the Padma. But Vikram refuses and after a series of incidents the Padma is married to Raghu, who she soon realizes is mistreated by her family members. Filled with rage, she stands up for him and defends him, thus making Raghu gain some confidence to fight for himself. Raja (Daebu Banerji) an orphan and Kajol (Nivedita Tiwari) from a rich family background are students at Dudley College in Mumbai. The college is heading towards the summer break and the Principal, Mr. Bhatia (Jalees Sherwani), announces the popular annual dancing and singing competition by selecting male and female students through a number matching system. Incidentally, Raja and Kajol's numbers are paired for the performance but Kajol hesitates. Raja decides not to participate after Kajol's hesitation, but Kajol's sophisticated father, Ranveer Singh (Shaheed Khan), who also participated during his college days is hyped up about Kajol winning the traditional college gold medal. Raja hadn't been to college for days, leaving very little time for preparation. Kajol gets anxious to make her father happy and finally skips class to find Raja, who is helping his father (Moti Seth) in his restaurant. She manages to find him, convince him and they go on to win the competition. Post the competition, as college breaks for holidays, Raja and Kajol begin to realise the emptiness in each other's life.
