However, soon he loses his job. Ejaz and Naaz manage to meet secretly, with the help of Naaz's sister Kausar. This relationship angers several people - first Akhtar Nawab (Rehman), Naaz's paternal cousin, who wishes to marry her, and then Nawab Bakar Ali Khan (Prithviraj Kapoor), her father.

After an argument with his mother, Shankar departs to the city, gives up drinking, earns a lot of money, and returns home just to time to pay off his mortgage. But his world will soon be shattered after he goes to ask for the hand of a now wealthy Parvati. This is where he will be forced to face his past, and ultimately be told that Parvati's marriage has been arranged elsewhere. A drama film about a family consisting of Barrister Mohan; his son - CID Inspector Sharad, daughter, Kamla and a school-going son, Munna. Sharad's marriage has been arranged with Karuna, who lives a wealthy lifestyle with her widowed father. On the day of the marriage, Kamla asks Karuna to retrieve some letters that she had written to her former lover, Ramesh Bhatia. Karuna goes to retrieve them but ends up assaulting Ramesh, and returns just in time to get married. Both women promise to never reveal this secret to anyone, as this may break-up the marriage. But soon they find out that Ramesh has been killed and investigations show that the killer is a woman whose name starts with 'K'. Sharad is assigned this case but is unable to proceed, and as a result of his superior, SP Verma closes the file. The story continues and soon, the entire family's dirty laundry will be aired before an open courtroom where Mohan will prepare to defend his daughter-in-law, while Sharad will appear as a witness against his very own wife.

Seth Jamna Das's (Raj Mehra) only college-going daughter Sapna (Rakhee) is involved with poor Shyam (Manoj Kumar). Failing to persuade her, and prevail upon her to marry DIG Gopal Das's (Prem Nath) only son, Deepak (Prem Chopra) he agrees to marry off the lovers. But on the night of marriage Shyam is not only accused of a safe break but also death of Kamini (Snehlata), and forced to join the criminals in a spate of robberies after one of which there is a showdown between him and the rest, and he manages to escape and lands in a town where he saves a young girl, Meena (Nazima) from a group of hooligans, who then forces him to come to her house for first aid treatment. Meena is the daughter of an honest cop, Constable Ram Singh (Pran) who instantly adopts him (now called Mohan) as his son. Notwithstanding continuity jerks; now all actions (murders, rapes, gold smuggling) and characters find themselves in the same town. And the lecherous Deepak in partnership with Jamna Das is the kingpin of all unlawful activities even though DIG Gopal Das is honesty personified. In the swiftly changing scenario, the old lovers get reunited, songs and dances in flashback follow, Shyam/Mohan finds out Kamini is alive, after some fisticuffs he is arrested, Ram Singh gets promoted as Sub-Inspector, but in a chase to prevent Deepak/Jamna Das's consignment with gold he falls prey to the former's bullet. DIG Gopal Das gets him cremated with full honors, vowing to get the culprit booked. Jamna Das agrees to marry off Sapna to Deepak to consolidate his nefarious activities but Shyam/Mohan spoils the party leading to a showdown between the partners. Not only that, he also convinces the DIG about his son's doing, how he had been hoodwinked into the aiding them, and brings him to the scene of action where the party is in a confessional mode. And in an attempt to escape, Deepak even fires at his father.

The second wife of kind-hearted and generous Amirchand Bhargav is Durgadevi Bhargav (Nadira), who is exactly the opposite of her late husband. She rules over her household, along with her brother, Makhanlal (Madan Puri), with an iron hand, and also over her step-daughter, Shanti (Vidya Sinha), who she treats worse than her servants. Due to her brutality, there is always a dearth of servants in her household, and hence most of the work must be done by Shanti. Her other daughter is Roopa (Moushumi Chatterjee), who is bad-tempered and spoiled. When a former employee of Amirchand, Ratanlal (Shreeram Lagoo) approaches Durgadevi for marrying her two sons to her two daughters, she humiliates him and turns him away. Unperturbed by this, he asks the assistance of his two sons, Ram (Sanjeev Kumar) and Laxman (Shashi Kapoor), so that the marriages can take place, and at the same time, Durgadevi and Makhanlal be taught a lesson. Both the sons readily agree to do this, and Ram goes to Durgadevi household as a servant to woo Shanti; while Laxman poses as a wealthy playboy to woo Roopa. But Makhanlal and his wife, Jwala (Shashikala) want Roopa to marry their jailbird son, Chander (Ranjeet), and will not stop at anything, including abducting Durgadevi herself, to pave their way to wealth.

Darshall Lall is a gangster with many political connections. And it is for this reason that no police officer has dared to arrest Lall or any of his men. But when Public Prosecutor, Janki Rai's rickshaw-driver husband, Raghunath Prasad Rai, witnesses Lall's son, Surendra Pal, kill Ram Mohan Tripathi, Lall's son is arrested and brought before the court. Lall's offer to bribe Janki are in vain, and as a result Surendra is convicted and sentenced to die. Lall swears to break up the Rai to avenge the death of his son, and finds out that Raghunath could be brought with money, and he induces him as such, and inducts him in a life of crime. Money and an easy life corrupt Raghunath and he takes to coming home late, and drinking alcohol. One day Raghunath is arrested by the police and held for a court hearing. During that night Lall arranges his escape, however, Raghunath's car meets with an accident, and he dies, leaving Janki widowed and to single-handedly bring up Raghunath's younger brother, Sunil. She ensures Sunil gets a good education and after several years he becomes a police officer. His superiors are impressed with his performance and assign him a special case of stopping smuggling activities, which Sunil accepts with great pride. What Sunil does not know that the smugglers he is attempting to arrest are headed by none other than Darshal Lall, who also has an unpleasant surprise awaiting him.
