Brahmhdutt (Dilip Kumar), Premchand (Shafi Inamdar) and Mushtaq Ali Khan (Anupam Kher) have been the closest of friends. Against his wishes, Brahmhdutt's daughter Sonu marries a poor man Indrajeet Sabharwal, who is already married to Radhika and has a son Vijay, from the latter. Vijay takes off from home and grows up to be a dreaded Don in the city (Govinda). Indrajeet is given the post of a manager in a steel factory owned by Brahmhdutt and Premchand. Indrajeet first exterminates Premchand and indicts Brahmhdutt for the murder. Brahmhdutt is packed off to prison. Indrajeet now takes charge of Brahmhdutt's business empire and throws the latter's wife Sujata on to the streets. Not satisfied with the ill-gotten wealth, Indrajeet now wants to marry Premchand's only daughter and legal heiress Mohini (Madhuri Dixit) in order to usurp more wealth, but when she spurns him, he hires Vijay to wipe out her existence, little knowing that they are in love with each other. Brahmhdutt, in the meantime, completes his term in jail and on release sets about to reform Vijay. Geetanjali is the story of two twin sisters Geeta and Anjali (Rekha in double role). Geeta is a music teacher and Anjali is a world renowned famous dancer. Sagar (Jeetendra) is a college professor who has come to his sisters place to spend his holiday. There he meets Geeta, they fall in love and get married. In course of time they have a child. Geeta is of very suspicious nature. Whenever Sagar comes late she suspects that he must be having an affair with his female students. One of the students, Kaveri, flirts with Sagar so that he will pass her in the exams. She tries to take advantage of Sagar but when she is turned down, Kaveri reports to the principal that Sagar tried to rape her.
