After Chennai-based Shakhti Mathur gets into fisticuffs with goons, his mother, Kamini, decides to send him to her parents' house in the country. He re-locates there, and ends up falling in love with Neelima Pandey, who is betrothed to Karan Joshi, and the only daughter of Shankar Pandey, who has total control over a town called Thiruvatchi. When Shankar finds out, he has Neelima forcibly abducted, even cancels her wedding with Karan, and decides to wed her to Bhairav. The king of Jagmer, Maharaja Daljeet (Sohrab Modi), sends a marriage proposal to the king of a neighboring city, Sultanpur. In the proposal, Maharaja Daljeet asks to marry his daughter, Raja Beti (Madhubala), to Kumar (Pradeep Kumar), the son of the king of Sultanpur (Ulhas). The king of Sultanpur strongly rejects the proposal and states that the long term rivalry between the two empires is the reason for his refusal; he is injuriously disrespected by the messenger, Sabgram Singh (Murad). Later, the king of Sultanpur also says that Daljeet has conspired against his empire and by proposing the marriage he wants to take revenge. The disrespectful behavior of the king of Sultanpur makes Daljeet angry, and he orders preparations for a war against Sultanpur. Daljeet also provokes his daughter to take vengeance against the king of Sultanpur for the insult. The fortress of the king of Sultanpur is well known for a trap in which troops flounder. Daljeet learns of a map of the fortress, which will help troops navigate across the trap. While retrieving the map from the enemy camp, one of the Daljeet's important soldiers is caught and killed. Daljeet realizes the task is full of risk so he invites the bravest soldiers in the kingdom to try, but they all refuse. After the denial of the brave soldiers, Juhi (Kammo) and Raja Beti accept the task and dress up as men to infiltrate the enemy camp.[5] After much hardship they, at last, get the map. While returning in disguise as a shepherdess, Raja Beti meets Kumar. Kumar on his first meeting begins to fall in love with her, but he is unaware that the shepherdess is actually the princess of Jagmer.[5] Raja Beti gives the map to Daljeet. When everything is planned and the army is ready for the war, Daljeet orders an attack on Sultanpur. Raja Beti decides to take revenge for the insult by killing the king of Sultanpur's son, Kumar. But in the combat zone, she finds herself in love with Kumar and unable to kill him. Although Kumar knows that the shepherdess is really Raja Beti, he doesn't stop loving her. Kumar asks his father for permission to marry Raja Beti, and after a long disagreement, Kumar's father agrees. But now, Daljeet refuses the proposal and shows disrespect. However, Daljeet soon realizes that Raja Beti is in love with Kumar and promises to allow the marriage. Daljeet overlooks past rivalries and asks the king of Sultanpur that the marriage go ahead. The story revolves around Bhanu (Padmapriya) who gets married to Ratnavel (Nithin Sathya), a guy who works in railways as a Hockey Player. He married Bhanu, by hiding the facts that he is impotent and is a recovering alcoholic. Soon the relationship turns sour, when the couple realize after a gynecologist (Suhasini) tells them that Ratnavel is impotent. In spite of family pressures to get a mutual divorce, the old-fashioned Bhanu decides to go ahead with the marriage by adopting a child. But with the arrival of the baby, Ratnavel becomes more insecure and tells her that the child reminds him about his weakness! And all hell breaks loose when Bhanu realizes that her husband was an alcoholic who knew about his impotency and had betrayed her. Ratnavel, in his anger, beats up Bhanu till she is almost unconscious. A few days later, she files for a divorce and stays with her parents for some days. Bhanu meets Ravichandran (Pritviraj), a happy-go-lucky guy who is a friend of her brother's. He proposes to her and they later get married. But Ratnavel who had vowed to make life miserable for Bhanu, returns. He kidnaps Bhanu and places a cadaver in her home before faking an accident with a cooking gas cylinder, leading Ravichandran and his family to believe that Bhanu died in a kitchen accident. After that, Ratnavel brings Bhanu to his bungalow in an isolated area and locks her in a sound proof room. When Ravichandran goes to Ratnavelu's house to get some life insurance papers, a series of clues lead him to find Bhanu. After distracting Ratnavel, Ravichandran calls the police and rescues Bhanu. Ratnavel is sent to a mental asylum where he later hangs himself. This seems to be a true story which happened in Andhra Pradesh in the late 90's and the family members of Ratnavel (name changed) are still there in Kakinada! But the movie ends with a happy note when we see that Ravichandran and Bhanu are still happily married and Bhanu is visibly pregnant. more»

The movie begins with two young kids who fight each other in a marriage hall who grow up to be Krishna (Prasanna) and Ramya (Laila) . They meet after two decades during a college cultural meet and again lock horns with each other. Fate brings them together in Chennai after a few years, again fighting with each other. Meanwhile, a series of events forces Krishna's close friend Aravindh (Karthik Kumar) to come to India from the USA to get married. His parents arrange his wedding with Ramya. Ramya, who decides to get married to help her younger sister's love, displays herself as a passive character who accepts whatever the life partner feel is right. On the contrary, she is bold, active, independent and assertive in nature. Knowing this, Krishna tries hard to let her true character come out. However, Aravindh stalls the wedding plans and returns to the USA as he finds Ramya as a person who does not think on her own and not independent. Mistaking Krishna for influencing Aravindh, Ramya locks horns with him. Meanwhile, Ramya's mother (Revathy) ends up in hospital and Krishna comes to the help of the family and eventually develops an affinity for Ramya which turns into romance. Enters Aravindh now with a decision to marry Ramya. The climax was expected after the closeness between Ramya and Krishna. asu(Dhanush) is from a middle-class family. He makes several bids to obtain employment but all goes in vain due to his poor language skills and inadequate educational qualifications. All his friends settle in life, but he continues to struggle in finding employment.Vasu has two faithful friends in Cheenu (Karthik Kumar), and Ganesh (Karunaas). His father (Raghuvaran), who is a teacher, is always critical of him for being an irresponsible person. This just added to his list of woes. At this juncture,Vasu catches a glimpse of a woman named Keerthi (Nayanthara), and immediately falls in love with her. He learns that she works for a software solutions firm. Luckily for him,Vasu finally secures employment in the same firm. Keerthi eventually turns out to be a short-tempered young woman. On a business trip,Vasu accompanies her along with two other colleagues (Jeeva and Manobala), to Australia. Here he reveals his feelings of love to her. She immediately turns him down, saying that she comes from an orthodox family, and her marriage has already been arranged with her uncle's son. A depressed Vasu returns to India thereafter. Unable to see his son in depression, his father decides to meet Keerti. She abuses him for recommending his son's love, and accidentally slaps both Vasu and his father. Later that night, Vasu's father dies of a heart attack. In order to help change Vasu's mood, Cheenu manages to persuade him to come along to his family house in the country. Coincidentally, on the train journey, Keerthi is revealed to be the fiancee of Cheenu. However, their grandfather's (K. Viswanath) thoughts of getting them married earlier are put aside because Cheenu and Keerthi leave the house to have their own identity. This causes heartburn to their grandfather. With the passing of a few days, the parents of Keerthi and Cheenu decide to get them married to appease their grandfather. After several turns of events, Keerthi realizes that she is in love with Vasu instead. When Vasu asks her to forget him, during a midnight meeting, because he believes that it would create problems in their happy family, Cheenu himself overhears their conversation. During the wedding, Cheenu tries to force Vasu and Keerthi to confess their relationship to everyone who is present. But when they hesitate to do so, Cheenu stops the marriage himself, by lying to his elders that he has a secret wife in Chennai. When Cheenu comes under fire from his relatives,Vasu tells them the truth, and is driven out of the house. He is joined only by the grandma of the house, who agrees to accompany him as she reminds Vasu of his late father. In time, the rest of Cheenu and Keerthi's family comes to stay with u for a few days. But Cheenu's grandfather refuses to enter the house, telling Vasu he is still angry with him, and needs time to change himself somehow. Bhaskaran, during an arrear exam, happens to meet a young lecturer Chandrika (Nayantara) and instantly gets attracted to her, though she disapproves of him because he attempted to copy during the exam.Bhaskaran lives with his mother, Sivakami (Lakshmi Ramakrishnan), brother Saravanan (Panchu Subbu) who is a successful veterinarian and sister, Nithya (Monisha). When his brother marries Nandhini (Vijayalakshmi), he finds out that Nandhini's younger sister is actually Chandrika, and wishes to marry her. When he approaches his family for a chance, everyone talks very frankly of his unemployed status which rankles him and causes him to leave his house to prove himself.With the support of Nallathambi, he establishes a tutorial for Class 10 students and despite early setbacks makes it work and ensures that he makes a very heavy profit on the deal, while also convincing Chandrika, who eventually reciprocates his love. However despite all this, Chandrika's father Shanmugasundaram (Chitra Lakshmanan) is against her marriage with Bhaskaran, the reason being that he had been once insulted by a drunk Nallathambi as revenge for not having sanctioned a loan to Bhaskaran, who also gave him the nickname "Mongoose Mandaiyan" (Mongoose Head). Shiva (Jiiva), a supposed "teetotaler", is introduced as Chandrika's prospective groom. Bhaskaran then confronts Shiva, explaining to him that he loves Chandrika. The two get into a fight soon after, but when Shanmugasundaram arrives at the spot, he learns the truth: Shiva was hired by Bhaskaran to fool everyone about his identity. Thrilled to introduce his to-be wife to his old friend, Deva doesn t realize that he ends up introducing Indu instead of Shruti. Ranjith is shocked. Underworld don David Billa (Ajith Kumar); is on Interpol's criminal list; hiding and operating out of Malaysia.DSP Jayprakash (Prabhu Ganesan) has spent the last few years looking for Billa; leaving behind a life in India.During a chase with the police Billa is severely wounded after an accident and dies in front of the DSP. The DSP realises that keeping Billa's death as a secret is the best way to inflitrate the gang. He tracks down a look-alike called Saravana Velu (Ajith Kumar); a lowly pick-pocket and asks Velu to infiltrate Billa's gang by pretending to be Billa.
