Sathyaraj is a pilot, works in Indian airlines but only flies government planes. Once a M.P.(villain) calls him and tells him that his daughter who has gone on a tour to Karachi along with her friends is not able to return due to political issues, M.P ask him to bring his daughter safely and Sathyaraj agrees to it. He drives a private helicopter to Karachi to bring her back and he succeeds in it. Sathyaraj unknowingly leaves his Flying license in the helicopter. This is noticed and he is arrested by Nassar the police officer, Sathyaraj's widowed mother & his sister begs the police not to arrest. Nassar files a case on Sathyaraj for terrorist activity & weapons handling. Sathyaraj is released after 2 years.Once while walking with Gautami he sees one of the terrorists whom he had seen while traveling in Karachi. While chasing him in the streets of Mumbai he finds his sister. His sister turned mute after the arrest of her brother & his mother dies after the incident. Finally Sathyaraj plans to expose the M.P to the public red handed but the situation becomes worse when the M.P takes Gautami & his sister as hostages. In Trichy, Selvam meets Radhika (Tamannaah), his child hood friend and tries to befriend her. But Radhika avoids Selvam pretending as she does not recognize Selvam. Slowly Selvam and Radhika become good friends. Selvam proposes to Radhika but she remains calm and tells that she needs time to think about it. Meanwhile Veera Pandi gets know about the true identity of Rajalingam and prevents him from involving in corruption which angers Rajalingam and he decides to revenge Veera Pandi by killing Selvam. Rajalingam sends a few thugs to Trichy to kill Selvam. Veera Pandi gets to know about his plans and rushes to Trichy to save Selvam. Radhika is feared seeing a group of violent men with Selvam and prefers not to disclose her love. Rajalingam becomes minister now and he openly challenges Veera Pandi as he need not depend on Veera Pandi s support hereafter. Selvam gets back to Pandiapuram to safeguard his family from Rajalingam. Radhika gets to know that it was Selvam who helped her uncle by recovering the money invested in a disputed land and she decides to convey her love to Selvam. Radhika requests Selvam to stay away from his family, so that they can lead a peaceful life. Selvam gets furious hearing this and ditches Radhika saying that his family is more important to him than anything else in the world. Later Radhika realizes her mistake and apologizes to Selvam following which both get united. Radhika visits Selvam s house often. Rajalingam plans to kill Veera Pandi knowing about his train journey based on the information from a stranger. But Selvam comes to rescue. Suddenly Veera Pandi realizes that poison is mixed in the coffee given to him and is rushed to hospital immediately and saved. Selvam enquires about the incident and finally gets shocked to know that it was Radhika who added poison. Also it was Radhika who informed Rajalingam about Veera Pandi s travel plans. Selvam rushes to Radhika s home. Radhika s mother and grandfather say that Veera Pandi killed Radhika s father years ago and they were waiting for a right opportunity to revenge. But Veera Pandi also comes to Radhika s home and tells a flashback about the true incident behind the murder of Radhika s father. He also clarifies that it was not him who killed her father. Now Radhika s family feels guilty about their acts. Selvam feels bad that Radhika cheated him in the name of love and leaves her. Next day, Radhika s family apologizes to Veera Pandi and informs that they are leaving to another town. Veera Pandi and his wife Thangam (Urvasi) forgives Radhika s mistake and urges Selvam to accept Radhika which he does. Selvam and Radhika get united. Rajasekhar (Sivaji Ganesan) becomes the guardian to his younger sister Radha (Savitri) after their parents death. The brother-sister duo love, care and adore each other and are inseparable. When the factory in which Rajasekhar works is shut down due to a labour problem and he is depressed, Radha gives him 1000 which she had earned and saved by making toys. She advises him to use this money as seed capital and commence his own toy business. The dutiful brother follows his sister s advice, starts a business and in a short time, becomes rich. Anand (Gemini Ganesan) a former colleague of Rajasekhar who earlier helped him to get a job in his old factory, is jobless and approaches Rajasekhar for work. Rajasekhar appoints him in his concern and over a period of time, Anand and Radha fall in love. Rajasekhar, who is very possessive of his sister, gets angry with Anand as he feels betrayed. However, knowing how intensely Radha loves Anand, he arranges for their wedding.After the marriage, Anand, along with his aunt and cousin, move into Rajasekhar s house. Rajasekhar marries Malathy (M. N. Rajam), a doctor, on Radha s suggestion. All of them continue to live under the same roof and several misunderstandings arise. Anand s aunt uses every opportunity to widen the rift between Malathy and Radha and Radha and Anand. Unable to witness Radha s troubles, Rajasekhar moves out of the house with his wife, Through Radha, Anand s aunt serves a legal notice to Rajasekhar, demanding a share in the property for Radha. Malathy files a counter petition and the property is attached by the court, pending resolution. Unable to see Radha s sufferings, Rajasekhar withdraws the case. Still the families do not unite. Radha delivers a girl and Malathy delivers a boy. After her child s birth, Malathy goes abroad for further studies, leaving the child with Rajasekhar. Unable to cope with the separation from his sister and to have peace of mind, Rajasekhar goes on a pilgrimage for several months. He returns on Diwali day and goes to meet Radha, but is denied entry by Anand s aunt. While going back, he saves a little girl from getting burnt by fire crackers and in the process, loses his eyesight. He is hospitalised and Radha rushes to the hospital to see her brother. Rajasekhar learns that the girl he saved is none other than his niece. Unable to cope with his inability to see them, he dies; Radha too dies holding his hand.
