"Selvam (Karthik) lives with his friend Bhaskar (Ramesh Khanna) doing small jobs. One day they both decide to steal a Ganesh idol from a temple believing that having a stolen Ganesh idol at home will bring prosperity. They are spotted by the local people around the temple and the two hide in Radha s (Roja) home. Radha works in Viswanthan s (Mouli) home as maid after her mother s death. But actually Radha is the illegitimate daughter of Viswanathan which both of them alone know about. Viswanthan along with his wife has gone to attend a function while Radha alone stays in the home along with Viswanathan s grandchildren. Radha spots Selvam and Ramesh Khanna and locks them in a room mistaking them as thieves. But later realizes their good nature and releases them. One day, Viswanathan s wife Sathyapriya raises an issue that her diamond necklace is missing and accuses Radha for stealing it and sends her out of home. Radha does not want Viswanathan to reveal her true identity and instead leaves the home. Now Selvam meets Radha and gets to know her situation. Selvam joins Radha in a women s hostel and helps her. One day Selvam hears Radha singing and understands her singing talent. Selvam helps music director Gangai Amaren during midnight when his car was repaired. Gangai Amaren thanks Selvam and offers him help. But Selvam informs Gangai Amaren about Radha and her beautiful voice and requests him to provide her a chance for singing in movies. Gangai Amaren agrees and calls Radha to sing in chorus along with others. But he is impressed with her singing ability and offers her a solo song. Radha gets popular as a singer and receives so much fame and prosperity. She moves to a big bungalow along with Selvam and Ramesh Khanna. In the meantime, Viswanathan also reveals that Radha is his daughter and wants to reunite with her. Viswanathan s wife also accepts Radha as her step daughter. Everyone now lives in the same bungalow. But Sathyapriya and her sister hate Selvam and Ramesh Khanna staying along with them. Radha s family members plan her wedding with Sanjay (Ajith Kumar), brother of Sathyapriya who lives abroad. Sanjay comes to India on a visit. Radha leaves to New Delhi to receive a national award and in the meantime, Sathyapriya accuses Selvam for stealing money and sends him out of home while Radha is away. When Radha returns she gets shocked knowing that Selvam and Ramesh Khanna has already left somewhere. She finds a diary in Selvam s room where Selvam has expressed his desire to marry Radha and thereby understands his love. Meanwhile an event has been organized in Chennai for congratulating Radha on her achievement of winning a national award. Selvam is an auto driver now and comes to drop a customer to Radha s function. On getting to know that the function is for Radha, Selvam decides to watch it along with the crowd. On the stage, Radha speaks emotionally about the hardships faced by her during early days and praises that it was Selvam who stood by her during her tough days. She dedicates all her fame and glory to Selvam and says that he is somewhere in the crowd watching the program and requests him to come on stage. Selvam comes to the stage amid huge applause from the crowd. In front of everyone, Radha expresses her wish to marry Selvam for which he agrees happily. A small flashback is shown where Radha has already informed her wish of marrying Selvam to Sanjay for which he agreed immediately and wished her good luck. The movie begins with two young kids who fight each other in a marriage hall who grow up to be Krishna (Prasanna) and Ramya (Laila) . They meet after two decades during a college cultural meet and again lock horns with each other. Fate brings them together in Chennai after a few years, again fighting with each other. Meanwhile, a series of events forces Krishna's close friend Aravindh (Karthik Kumar) to come to India from the USA to get married. His parents arrange his wedding with Ramya. Ramya, who decides to get married to help her younger sister's love, displays herself as a passive character who accepts whatever the life partner feel is right. On the contrary, she is bold, active, independent and assertive in nature. Knowing this, Krishna tries hard to let her true character come out. However, Aravindh stalls the wedding plans and returns to the USA as he finds Ramya as a person who does not think on her own and not independent. Mistaking Krishna for influencing Aravindh, Ramya locks horns with him. Meanwhile, Ramya's mother (Revathy) ends up in hospital and Krishna comes to the help of the family and eventually develops an affinity for Ramya which turns into romance. Sathya, Ilamaran and Aalavandhar allocates a land space in a village for a cool drink company. The village is rich in land water and the people oppose for the governments move against them. But these corrupt personalities issue an order for the start of the factory. Muthazhagu tries to meet the collector (Ilamaran) with the people of the locality and fails to get a reason for it. So he moves on to the court and with the court's order he gets a stay for the project. In order to save and work for the people he plans to contest in the elections as an independent candidate. He stands opposite his father Aalavandhar. He wins the elections and extends his support to the party and gets a place in the ministry. He takes charge of the high profile department as Home Minister. Muthazhagu commands and passes orders to all the departments to work for the welfare of the public and he would take care of all the other issues within the departments. He threatens the CM and takes orders for effective governance. Aalavandhar gets irritated by the moves of Muthazhagu and discusses the same with his in-laws. Sathya plans to wipe him off. This brings Aalavandhar to realize his misdoings in the past and meets Muthazhagu and confesses his mistake and asks him to return to their home. Muthazhagu accepts to return to their home along with his wife Gauri (Karthika Mathew). On an official call he goes to Delhi. Aalavandhar meets up in an accident and passes away. Muthazagu's mom thinks Muthazagu killed his dad and bans him from the house. asu(Dhanush) is from a middle-class family. He makes several bids to obtain employment but all goes in vain due to his poor language skills and inadequate educational qualifications. All his friends settle in life, but he continues to struggle in finding employment.Vasu has two faithful friends in Cheenu (Karthik Kumar), and Ganesh (Karunaas). His father (Raghuvaran), who is a teacher, is always critical of him for being an irresponsible person. This just added to his list of woes. At this juncture,Vasu catches a glimpse of a woman named Keerthi (Nayanthara), and immediately falls in love with her. He learns that she works for a software solutions firm. Luckily for him,Vasu finally secures employment in the same firm. Keerthi eventually turns out to be a short-tempered young woman. On a business trip,Vasu accompanies her along with two other colleagues (Jeeva and Manobala), to Australia. Here he reveals his feelings of love to her. She immediately turns him down, saying that she comes from an orthodox family, and her marriage has already been arranged with her uncle's son. A depressed Vasu returns to India thereafter. Unable to see his son in depression, his father decides to meet Keerti. She abuses him for recommending his son's love, and accidentally slaps both Vasu and his father. Later that night, Vasu's father dies of a heart attack. In order to help change Vasu's mood, Cheenu manages to persuade him to come along to his family house in the country. Coincidentally, on the train journey, Keerthi is revealed to be the fiancee of Cheenu. However, their grandfather's (K. Viswanath) thoughts of getting them married earlier are put aside because Cheenu and Keerthi leave the house to have their own identity. This causes heartburn to their grandfather. With the passing of a few days, the parents of Keerthi and Cheenu decide to get them married to appease their grandfather. After several turns of events, Keerthi realizes that she is in love with Vasu instead. When Vasu asks her to forget him, during a midnight meeting, because he believes that it would create problems in their happy family, Cheenu himself overhears their conversation. During the wedding, Cheenu tries to force Vasu and Keerthi to confess their relationship to everyone who is present. But when they hesitate to do so, Cheenu stops the marriage himself, by lying to his elders that he has a secret wife in Chennai. When Cheenu comes under fire from his relatives,Vasu tells them the truth, and is driven out of the house. He is joined only by the grandma of the house, who agrees to accompany him as she reminds Vasu of his late father. In time, the rest of Cheenu and Keerthi's family comes to stay with u for a few days. But Cheenu's grandfather refuses to enter the house, telling Vasu he is still angry with him, and needs time to change himself somehow.
