Sathyam (Vishal), an assistant police commissioner believes that a cop's duty is to kill crime, not criminals. Sathyam meets his first challenge in tracking a mysterious killer of three ministers. In the process, he finds the culprit Manickvel (Upendra). This is a shock. For, the murderer is none other than a former police officer, who inspired Sathyam to take the cop job. Revealing the reason behind his change of mind, the ex-cop says that he is on a killing spree as he failed to set right things in khakhi uniform. Sathyam, who throws a challenge at his mentor that he would use the power of law to put the wrongdoers behind the bars, vows to throw light on the illegal activities of the Home minister (Kota Srinivasa Rao), who aims at the Chief Minister post. The story is set in a village where Roopa (Zeenat Aman) lives with her father, the village priest. As a young child, the right side of Roopa's face & neck were burned by a pot of boiling oil, leaving part of her face disfigured. Henceforth, Roopa keeps her right cheek hidden under the cover of her Sari. Despite the terrible accident, Roopa remains religious and goes to the village temple daily, singing hymns and devotional songs. The protagonist Rajeev (Shashi Kapoor) is a dashing engineer who arrives in the village to oversee the operation of a major dam. He abhors anything that is ugly. He hears Roopa's religious singing and meets her, but somehow doesn't pay attention to her disfigured side, and falls in love with her. He then asks her father permission to marry her. After the wedding, he discovers the truth, and thinks that he was cheated and forced to marry someone else, at which point he disowns Roopa and drives her out of the house. Roopa decides to meet him at night, using a veil to hide the charred side of her face. Rajeev spends his days hating his wife, and his nights loving his mistress, not knowing they are both the same woman - Roopa. During one of their nights together, they make love and Roopa gets pregnant. When Rajeev finds out that his wife is pregnant, he suspects her of infidelity and still refuses to believe this his "mistress" and wife are one and the same. In the movie's climax, a terrible storm ravages the village, breaking open the dam which Rajeev had come to build. The story revolves around Bhanu (Padmapriya) who gets married to Ratnavel (Nithin Sathya), a guy who works in railways as a Hockey Player. He married Bhanu, by hiding the facts that he is impotent and is a recovering alcoholic. Soon the relationship turns sour, when the couple realize after a gynecologist (Suhasini) tells them that Ratnavel is impotent. In spite of family pressures to get a mutual divorce, the old-fashioned Bhanu decides to go ahead with the marriage by adopting a child. But with the arrival of the baby, Ratnavel becomes more insecure and tells her that the child reminds him about his weakness! And all hell breaks loose when Bhanu realizes that her husband was an alcoholic who knew about his impotency and had betrayed her. Ratnavel, in his anger, beats up Bhanu till she is almost unconscious. A few days later, she files for a divorce and stays with her parents for some days. Bhanu meets Ravichandran (Pritviraj), a happy-go-lucky guy who is a friend of her brother's. He proposes to her and they later get married. But Ratnavel who had vowed to make life miserable for Bhanu, returns. He kidnaps Bhanu and places a cadaver in her home before faking an accident with a cooking gas cylinder, leading Ravichandran and his family to believe that Bhanu died in a kitchen accident. After that, Ratnavel brings Bhanu to his bungalow in an isolated area and locks her in a sound proof room. When Ravichandran goes to Ratnavelu's house to get some life insurance papers, a series of clues lead him to find Bhanu. After distracting Ratnavel, Ravichandran calls the police and rescues Bhanu. Ratnavel is sent to a mental asylum where he later hangs himself. This seems to be a true story which happened in Andhra Pradesh in the late 90's and the family members of Ratnavel (name changed) are still there in Kakinada! But the movie ends with a happy note when we see that Ravichandran and Bhanu are still happily married and Bhanu is visibly pregnant. more»
