"Srinivas (Venkatesh) an educated unemployed guy and his sister Lakshmi (Varalakshmi) lost their parents in childhood for saving a landlord Sridhar Rao (Vankayala) and stay with their uncle Nagayah (Suthi Velu) who is a chronic drinker, takes out all money given by Sridhar Rao and sells them. Srinivas's cousin Saroja (Gouthami), daughter of Nagayah helps them to get away from that place and she stays back. They are adopted by a couple (Gollapudi Maruthi Rao & Y.Vijaya) in the city. Srinivas does all kinds of jobs like newspaper delivery boy, auto driver and runs a dance school, where he gets introduced to Lalitha (Bhanupriya) who will be looking for a job staying at her sister's (Anitha) house and her brother-in-law Yenimdakula Venkatrao (Prasad Babu) who is a bad person. Srinivas gives Lalitha a job in his dance school and both of them fall in love. Meanwhile, Saroja changes her name to Swapna and comes to rent in Srinivas house not knowing that he's her cousin. Bokka Lambodharam (Mohan Babu) proprietor of a 5 Star hotel, is a big womanizer. Incidentally, Srinivas uncle Nagayah works as an assistant to him as Nisachara. He sees Lalitha in a dance program and is attracted to her. After a few days, Swapna knows the truth which restarts her childhood love with Srinivas. At the same time, Bokka Lambodharam traps Lalitha's brother-in-law Venkatrao to get her. To protect her, Srinivas brings her home and tells her that he wants to marry her. After listening to that Swapna sacrifices her love, while they are making marriage arrangements Lalitha also knows the truth so decides to go away by accompanying Swapna with Srinivas. She takes help of Bokka Lambodharam to stop the marriage, he agrees to that if she accepts his condition. Meanwhile, Swapna listens to everything and goes in place of Lalitha. Now Lalitha reveals the truth to Srinivas that Swapna is only Saroja, even Nagayah also recognizes his daughter. Srinivas goes and protects Swapna. Madhavan (Mammootty), a simple village man who in childhood got bitten by the film bug, threw up his studies and finally ends up as 'Operator' Madhavan, who tours the countryside with his 16 mm projector and shows films at temple festivals and other public functions. Madhavan's family consist of his wife (Padmapriya) and a daughter (Sanusha). (Innocent) enacts the role of a priest. Madhavan comes across a six-year-old boy (Yash) who is displaced from his native Gujarat and separated from his family after the devastating earthquake. This boy was taken into a gang of beggars from where he manages to escape. Madhavan takes the boy home and cares for him, just like a son. He and his Family takes a fondness for the boy, later finding out that legally he cannot adopt the boy. The boy is taken away from Madhavan to a juvenile home and allegations of ill treatment is charged on Madhavan, but soon dismissed. The issue gets media coverage. Madhavan then goes to Gujarat with the boy in hopes of finding his family or adopting him. At the disaster camp in Gujarat Madhavan understands that the boys relatives are all most probably dead but due to legal hurdles, the boy must stay on in the hope that his real parents might be traced. "Neelakantan (Mohanlal) is the heir to the well-known Mangalassery family. He squanders away his father's largess and good name, but is loved by the people who know him well. He has been the arch-rival of Shekaran of the Mundakkal family since childhood. During a minor ruckus, one of Neelakantan's aides accidentally kills Shekaran's uncle (Janardanan). This incites Shekaran to plan to avenge the death of his uncle. Meanwhile, Neelakantan offends Bhanumathi (Revathi), a talented Bharata Natyam dance graduate, by forcing her to dance in front of him in his house. In retaliation, Bhanumathi quits dancing and curses Neelakantan for desecrating the art so dear to her. Later he feels regretful and helps her family in many ways and tries to persuade Bhanumathi to take up dancing again, but she doesn't budge. Meantime, Neelakantan visits his widowed mother intending to bring her back home, but she passes away after revealing a terrible secret; that he was born of another man, out of wedlock. This fact crushes him, and only Bhanumathi finds out this secret when he curses drunkenly (at the car of his deceased ""father"") that the ancestral heritage which he is proud of, is actually not his. She is surprised by the vulnerable side of Neelakantan. He visits Banumathi at her home to persuade her to take up dancing again, only to be refused like before, telling him that she will resume dancing only after his death. That night while returning home from the visit, Shekaran and his aides ambush (by hitting him with a car from behind) and injure him seriously after also inflicting several wounds with swords and wooden sticks. Neelakantan survives the attack, but his left hand and right leg are badly injured and as a cure he undergoes Ayurvedic treatment to rejuvenate his legs. It is during this time that Bhanumathi falls in love with him (she is also regretful for having cursed him, feeling a bit guilty that the attack was somehow related to her curse). Neelakantan convinces Bhanumathi to dance and he arranges for a dance event for her at Delhi. He refuses to marry Bhanumathi considering her future, but in the end she and Warrier (his elderly right hand man) persuade him to do so. Neelakantan tries to forget all the past events and his rivalry with Shekaran, but Shekaran is not satisfied and wants to defeat Neelakantan in front of the whole village. For this he kidnaps Bhanumathi and forces Neelakantan to take blows in front of the public during a village festival organized by the Mundakkal family. Meanwhile Neelakantan's friends rescue Bhanumathi and after this Neelakantan mauls Shekaran badly and cuts off Shekaran's right hand, claiming ""Shekeran, I want to live peacefully..."" so that he will not again come up with revenge later. The story is set in a village where Roopa (Zeenat Aman) lives with her father, the village priest. As a young child, the right side of Roopa's face & neck were burned by a pot of boiling oil, leaving part of her face disfigured. Henceforth, Roopa keeps her right cheek hidden under the cover of her Sari. Despite the terrible accident, Roopa remains religious and goes to the village temple daily, singing hymns and devotional songs. The protagonist Rajeev (Shashi Kapoor) is a dashing engineer who arrives in the village to oversee the operation of a major dam. He abhors anything that is ugly. He hears Roopa's religious singing and meets her, but somehow doesn't pay attention to her disfigured side, and falls in love with her. He then asks her father permission to marry her. After the wedding, he discovers the truth, and thinks that he was cheated and forced to marry someone else, at which point he disowns Roopa and drives her out of the house. Roopa decides to meet him at night, using a veil to hide the charred side of her face. Rajeev spends his days hating his wife, and his nights loving his mistress, not knowing they are both the same woman - Roopa. During one of their nights together, they make love and Roopa gets pregnant. When Rajeev finds out that his wife is pregnant, he suspects her of infidelity and still refuses to believe this his "mistress" and wife are one and the same. In the movie's climax, a terrible storm ravages the village, breaking open the dam which Rajeev had come to build.
