Brahmhdutt (Dilip Kumar), Premchand (Shafi Inamdar) and Mushtaq Ali Khan (Anupam Kher) have been the closest of friends. Against his wishes, Brahmhdutt's daughter Sonu marries a poor man Indrajeet Sabharwal, who is already married to Radhika and has a son Vijay, from the latter. Vijay takes off from home and grows up to be a dreaded Don in the city (Govinda). Indrajeet is given the post of a manager in a steel factory owned by Brahmhdutt and Premchand. Indrajeet first exterminates Premchand and indicts Brahmhdutt for the murder. Brahmhdutt is packed off to prison. Indrajeet now takes charge of Brahmhdutt's business empire and throws the latter's wife Sujata on to the streets. Not satisfied with the ill-gotten wealth, Indrajeet now wants to marry Premchand's only daughter and legal heiress Mohini (Madhuri Dixit) in order to usurp more wealth, but when she spurns him, he hires Vijay to wipe out her existence, little knowing that they are in love with each other. The story unfurls itself in the course of a TV game show, much akin to Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Jayakrishnan (Jayaram), the protagonist, comes to take part in the show, hosted by popular filmstar Mukesh. In the course of the show, the host pries into Jayakrishnan s past and the whole story is unfurled in flashback.Jayakrishnan, his uncle K. R. Menon (Narendra Prasad) and his cousin, Menon s daughter Radhika (Samyuktha Varma), who is Jayakrishnan s sweetheart too, lived together. All of them were lawyers and their house was nicknamed "Kodathi veedu" (Courthouse). Among the lawyers of Kodathi Veedu, Jayakrishnan and his Junior Ponnappan (Kalabhavan Mani) were the only utter. No client ever came in search of Jayakrishnan and he never earned anything. But he decided that he'd marry Radhika only after he had fought and won a legal battle. So Jayakrishnan, along with Ponnappan, decides to reopen the case of Hari Narayanan (Lal), who is locked up in a mental asylum for the past few years. Jayakrishnan, with timely help from Doctor Raziya (Manya), his friend, proves in court that Hari Narayanan is not insane and that he was dubbed a madman by his own brother Raveendran (Janardhanan), who wanted to wrest Hari's property too. It s uncle Menon who fights the suit from the other side. Jayakrishnan wins the case. Hari Narayanan is released from the mental asylum. Jayakrishnan is married to Radhika. But the film takes an altogether turn when Jayakrishnan discovers that Hari Narayanan was actually insane. Jayakrishnan is helpless as he was ashamed to expose Hari Narayanan's insanity. Meanwhile, the insane Hari Narayanan thinks that it was him who married Radhika. Then starts a series of strange happenings after which everybody believes that it is Jayakrishnan who is insane. Meanwhile, Hari Narayanan begins to seek revenge on his brother. He explodes his brother's factory, which causes a huge financial loss. It was Radhika, who legally offered bail for Hari Narayanan, responsible to repay this amount. Obviously, they were not able to pay and Radhika is in prison for this. Small time criminal, Mahi (Mammootty) gets released from prison early. He has a reputation of beating up his rivals in the darkness. Mahi wants to help fellow inmate Balan's (Manoj K. Jayan) whose brother Satheesh (Manikuttan) is in need of money for a life saving operation. A fellow crook, Giri (Suraj Venjaramood) proposes an assignment for Mahi which will earn him enough money for the operation. Thottappally Surendran (Vijayaraghavan) plans to murder Sivasankaran Pillai (Saikumar) to settle an old score. Sivasankaran is serving life sentence for killing Surendran's father and is due to be released on short term parole. As part of a master plot, Surendran wants another man to accept the criminal charge and punishment.Mahi takes up the assignment and sets off to the island village along with Giri. During the boat service to the village, they meet Indu (Gopika), the caretaker of Sivasankaran. During the trip, Indu gets harassed by Thottappally Sugunan (Santhosh Jogi), Surendran's brother. Mahi saves Indu with a single kick at Sugunan from the back which causes the boat to sink. Mahi saves the unconscious Indu from drowning Indu and flees the scene immediately. On meeting Surendran, Mahi agrees to the task for Rs 8,00,000. Mahi and Giri are instructed to hang around the fishing village till Sivasankaran arrives on parole. Kannan Srank, a henchman of Surendran acts as their local contact.On Surendran's instruction, Kannan Srank plots to defame Indu by accusing her of having an affair with Mahi. Indu loses her job at the harbour. Aaranaimuttom Devaki (K. P. A. C. Lalitha) saves Indu from further embarrassment. Mahi and Indu get to know each other. Mahi realizes that Indu's younger sister Ammu(Nimisha Suresh) is Sathessh's girlfriend. Sugunan tries to frame Ammu in a fraud charge. Mahi beats Sugunan up with an under water attack. He does the same with Surendran spraying chilli powder. Both of them do not get a clue who was the attacker.The villagers speculate about a "Mayavi" (magician) behind the attack. Kannan Srank's bogus claims of knowing Mayavi add further fuel for the speculations. Mahi in pretense of Mayavi uses Kannan Srank to prove the innocence of both Ammu and Indu and exposes Thottappally brothers. Indu joins back the job at the harbour. Mahi through Kannan Srank also offers protection for Sivasankaran in exchange for medical expenses for Satheesh. Kannan Srank go further on behalf by plotting a story in which Mayavi is in love with Indu.Sivasankaran arrives at the village knowing all about the plot to kill him. He commands Mahi and Giri to leave immediately. In the hospital meeting Satheesh, Sivasankaran mistakes Balan as Mayavi. Balan turns out to be a crook and he decides to play along even with out knowing the entire story. Indu refuses to believe that Balan is Mayavi. Yatheendran (Keerikkadan Jose), another convict identifies Mahi as Mayavi and Thottappally brothers entrusts Yatheendran to kill Mahi. Mahi beats up Yatheendran and Thottappally brothers and spoils the plot to kill Sivasankaran. Sivasankaran, however still believes Balan is Mayavi and decides to fix Indu's wedding with Balan and make Balan a partner in his businesses. more»

Sound designer Geetali (new find Sukhada Yash) is in a live-in relationship with an aspiring filmmaker, Parth (Chinmay Mandlekar), who is frustrated because he has not been able to make much headway in his career. One day, Geetali's friend, Eric (Edward Sonnenblick), a student of anthropology, comes from abroad and expresses a desire to study spirituality. He wants to make a documentary film on the Pandharpur pilgrimage, so popular among Maharashtrians. The pilgrimage, also referred to as Waari, is a 240-km. walk from Alandi to Lord Vithal's abode on Pandharpur, and mythology has it that the journey is to be completed in 18 days. The pilgrimage also entails unfolding of one of the 18 chapters of the Dnyaneshwari each day of the journey. Parth takes up the offer to direct the film but since he is keen to make a mark in commercial cinema, he makes it clear that he would make a feature and not a documentary.Parth starts off with his skeletal crew along with lakhs of pilgrims in the Pandharpur pilgrimage. However, he often becomes irritable and also loses his temper when he feels, his crew members are not doing their best. There comes a stage when Parth decides to abandon the project because he gets a telephone call announcing that a producer was willing to sign him on as director for his (Parth's) dream project. Although he leaves the unit to return to Bombay so that he can take up the direction of his long-cherished project, he returns to his unit when he realises that abandoning the film as well as the pilgrimage would be wrong on his part.
